FORTY-HOUR BASIC MEDIATION CLASS WITH CO-PARENTING FOCUS

DATES: Friday February 6, 2015 (5:30 pm to 9:30 pm) February 7 & 8, 2015 (8:00am to 4:30pm)

              Friday February 20, 2015 (5:30 pm to 9:30 pm) February 21 & 22, 2015 (8:00am to 4:30pm)

Information regarding the class

This class was designed for members of one of the following: the Idaho Judiciary; licensed member of

The Idaho State Bar Association; licensed psychologist; licensed professional counselor;

licensed clinical professional counselor; licensed master social worker; licensed clinical or

independent practice social worker; licensed marriage and family therapist; certified school

counselor; or certified school psychologist. Completion of the class will qualify the participant with these credentials for consideration and placement on the Idaho State Supreme Court’s Child Custody Roster as per I.R.C.P. Rule 16(j).

Three textbooks are required reading for this class:  The Mediator’s Handbook 4th Edition by Jennifer E. Beer and Caroline C. Packard with Eileen Stief and Dad’s House Mom’s House by Isolina Ricci, Ph.D.  and The Unexpected Legacy of Divorce by Judith Wallerstein, Etal. The text books are supplemented with the class manual and applicable articles, handouts, homework assignments, and quizzes.

The class forum is lecture and open discussion supplemented with over 15 hours of interactive learning activities and role plays.

The following skills are the primary focus of this class.  (a) Communication skills; (b) active listening skills; (c) Conflict resolution theory; (d) psychological issues in separation, divorce, and family dynamics; (e) domestic violence; (f) issues and needs of children; (g) child custody mediation process and techniques; (h) family law, including custody and support; (j) Professional Ethics;
