Advanced Issues in Child Custody Mediation (20 Hours)
*40-Hour Basic Mediation and 20-Hour Child Custody Mediation are Prerequisites*
Instructor: Carol Barkes, CPM and Trevor Castleton
Course Provider: Neuromediation Group, LLC
In recent years, child custody cases have become increasingly more contentious as society continues to become more polarized. While a basic knowledge of child custody mediation is essential, it is sometimes not enough to move parties past impasse when issues are particularly complex. Through this course, mediators will add information and strategies to their mediation toolbox on advanced issues such as no contact orders, domestic violence, drugs and alcohol considerations, reintegration concepts when one party has been incarcerated, managing the concept of children in mediation or having a voice, resist/refuse dynamics and parental alienation, religion, de-escalation and the role of storytelling in mediation. This course includes 30% role play and is co-taught by Carol Barkes, CPM and Attorney/Mediator Trevor Castleton.
